Getting Started
Find your operating system in the list below, or the operating system closest to what you have. Follow the step-by-step instructions. If you get stuck or hit a problem you can't figure out, you can join and e-mail the RailsBridge google group. Otherwise, just bring your laptop to the workshop installfest on Friday and our volunteers will help you pick up where you left off.
There are a lot of steps, and the instructions may seem like they're in a foreign language, but: don't panic! By the end of the workshop, you'll know what each one is and how to use it.
Overview
You will be installing the following tools:
- Git
- Ruby
- RubyGems
- Cucumber, Rspec, Webrat
- Rails
- SQLite
- SQLite manager Firefox plugin (and Firefox if it's not already installed)
- Heroku
- KomodoEdit
During this process you'll create a Heroku account if you don't already have one. Heroku is the free Ruby on Rails hosting service that we're using for workshop projects.
